NC Demo March Blog Hop featuring a Watercolor Birthday!

Happy Spring Everyone!

Ok has even trained with Erica Cerwin?  She is fabulous!  I took a online Watercolor Class with her and all I can say is WOW!  It was 12 videos each a different ways to watercolor.  I decided for this month's blog hop to use one.  This is a free hand flower technique.  I created the flowers using the tips of our Stampin' Up Aqua Painters and the full brush head swishing left to right without taking the brush off the watercolor paper.  I also shared two other techniques.  Enjoy!

Flower Birthday
My first step was to run the Cucumber Green cardstock through the Big Shot using the Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Can you believe this is the first time I've used that folder?  It's very springy to me!  Next, I cut my flowered watercolor masterpiece (laugh out loud) to fit the width.  When practicing your flowers use a full or half piece of Watercolor Paper and then cut out the piece you like the best.  You will make mistakes.

After that, I wrapped our Venetian Crochet Trim around three times.  Used the Butterflies Thinlits Dies and cut one in Cucumber Green, Pacific Point and Very Vanilla.  Not sure if you can tell, but the butterfly and flowers are covered in Wink of Stella Clear.

Ombre Tree

This card was a Watercolor Wash Ombre technique.  The colors are amazing aren't they?  And of course, who doesn't love the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set.  Erica used a dinosaur....just picture it!  When creating a ombre wash blend, blend and blend again.  Then let it completely dry and do it again!  This more times you wash the brighter the colors.  Use more water when you get those solid lines like shown in mine.  Ooops!  Another good suggestion when watercoloring is attached your paper to a piece of cardboard with painters or washi tape.  This will prevent your paper from curling up with all the water.  That's how I got the solid lines on the top of bottom of this card.

Tabletop Apple

Ok hands down on my favorite watercolor techniques EVER!  This is the full stamp work of art look.  Full stamp meaning a stamp is this 100% solid.  Check out your stamps...what do you have?  This is actually an upside down balloon from the Celebrate Today Stamp Set.  After you stamp, using your aqua painter and being very careful not to use too much water, watercolor your stamped image.  No worries if the image isn't perfect, because it will blend with the water.  Be careful when trying to stay in the lines the water will spread after your done.  Try shadowing light and dark in places and of course don't forget the stem, leaf and tabletop.  Love it!

NC Demos

NC Demo Blog Hop- IN Colors 2014-2016

It's that time again, another month has passed!  My card for the NC Demos Blog Hop this month was inspired by Dena Rekow.  She is so talented!  We only have 4 months left before the new catalog is released and that means unfortunately 5 awesome colors will be retiring.  IN Colors 2014-2016 will be leaving us (insert sad face) so be sure to stock up on them.  As the catalog nears to an end these colors will be harder and harder to get...they will sell out fast!  Be sure to visit my website and grab what you need!

The IN Colors 2014-2016 include Mossy Meadow, Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon, Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist.  Everything in these colors will retire including cardstock, inks, embellishments, etc.  And remember until the end of March Sale-A-Bration is still going strong!  For every $50 spent you can pick out 1 FREE exclusive item.  New items were just released on February 15 so check those out too.

Ok so back to my card....I love the clean lines of this card.  It was very simple!  The Botanical Stamps and Framelit are one of my favorites in the new catalog and fingers crossed it will carry over. :)  I have include the measurements and another example below so enjoy!!

Measurements:
Base: Very Vanilla 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4"
Layer 2: Lost Lagoon, Tangelo Twist and Hello Honey one each 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" and then cut random size strips.
Layer 3: Very Vanilla- Botanical Builders Framelit Dies and Word Window Punch.

I stamped Happy Birthday in Tangelo Twist using the And Many More Stamp Set and added a couple of pearls.  I love this card so much that I tried it again using different colors and theme.  I love the pairing of Blushing Bride, Pink Pirouette and Mint Macaron.

NC Demo Blog Hop

Sale-A-Bration (SAB) is such an exciting time for Stampin'! Up.  Today's blog hop is centered around just that.  Showcasing all the incredible products SAB has to offer.  This is the card I swapped at our NC Quarterly Meeting a few weeks ago.  It's one of my favorites, because I really got to play with many techniques!

To start, I used colors Early Espresso, Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight.   Here are the cutting dimensions:

  • Early Espresso 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored and folded.
  • Bermuda Bay 5 1/4" x 4"
  • Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper 5" x 3 3/4"

I stamped using Early Espresso the plane image from the set Sky is the Limit onto the Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper.  Both available only until Feb 15 with a $50 order.  Next, I used the sponge daubing technique to make a water like look.  Did you know when you use Pacific Point and Craft White Ink on Daffodil Delight paper it ends up looking like Bermuda Bay?  Will I do now!

To get the reflection look I stamped another plane on a clear envelope, flipped it over, lined up the wheels and scratched like a lottery ticket.  I should have won Powerball with all the scratching I did!

It's hard to tell in the photo but the heart is topped with Crystal Effects and the for the cloud I used Clear Embossing Powder.

Lastly, cut a 2" piece of Very Vanilla cut the end with the Decorative Label punch.  To do this slide the cardstock in the punch from above just enough to cut one end.

I really love the way it came out and I hope you do too!  Be sure to place your order and grab the Sky is the Limit Stamp Set and Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper before they retire.  As an added bonus for every $50 order you will get your name on my Nifty 50 Board.  Click Rewards for more details..

Don't stop here click on the next blog box and go to another amazing SAB card!
